The Greatest Promise

One of the greatest promises that we have been given by The Lord is forgiveness. What an immeasurable debt we owe God; and yet, because Jesus paid the due punishment for our sins, He doesn’t require payment from us. What glorious freedom is in Christ Jesus for those who take refuge under His wings from the wrath of God! Consider this verse from Psalms 34,

"The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants: and none of them that take refuge in Him shall suffer the due punishment [for their sins]." [Psa 34:22]

Those who take refuge in Jesus Christ, who is our City of Refuge, will not be punished. We will not be condemned for our sins, but God will pass over them, not imputing them to us. This is the most precious of all promises given to us by The LORD. We should rejoice over this fact, it should cause us to be glad when we dwell upon it, that our sins are forgiven and we will not be punished for them. Remember what Jesus told the paralytic: “son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.” [Mt 9:2] And David says,

"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom The LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile." [Psa 32:1-2]

CONCLUSION

Meditate on this promise of God, for it is the greatest of them all. That sinners could be forgiven and reconciled to a holy God is unthinkable. That The Son of God, God Himself, would become a man and take upon Himself the punishment, so that we might enjoy forgiveness and all spiritual blessings, and be glorified together with Him one day — what a glorious truth.
